One of the biggest trends for Spring 2012 is Head to Toe Pattern and for those who don’t want to go all out with the look, patterned pants are the perfect solution and “middle ground.” They are chic, fun, and add interest to any outfit. 10 Big Trends For Spring 2012

***

Bold Florals - This is the time of year when flowers start to bloom, and the Spring runways embraced this idea to the fullest with floral patterns. What’s different this year though, is that designers opted for bigger and brighter versions of the staple print.

Row 1, From L to R: Jean Paul Gaultier, Thakoon, DKNY, Prabal Gurung, Erdem. Row 2: ADAM, Roberto Cavalli, Altuzarra, Proenza Schouler, Karen Walker. Row 3: Richard Chai Love, Marni, Rodarte, Custo Barcelona, Erin Fetherston. Row 4: Blumarine, Cynthia Rowley, Prada, Diane von Furtstenberg, Sonia Rykiel. Row 5: Rebecca Taylor, Peter Som, Vionnet, Naeem Khan, Dolce & Gabbana.

***

A Short Story – Shorts are the perfect item for the warm months of Spring, so it only seems right that they’re one of the biggest trends of the season. And while there are various styles out there, the most popular look is definitely the short-short.

Row 1, From L to R: Elie Tahari, Balenciaga, MaxMara, Temperley London, Nanette Lepore. Row 2: Jason Wu, Erin Fetherston, Chanel, Douglas Hannant, Rebecca Minkoff. Row 3: Balmain, Erdem, Yigal Azrouel, Tracy Reese, Dolce & Gabbana. Row 4: Christian Cota, Jil Sander, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Alexandre Herchcovitch, Etro. Row 5: Versace, A.L.C, Nicole Miller, United Bamboo, Givenchy.

***

20′s Inspired – Perhaps it’s the influence of “Boardwalk Empire,” ” The Artist,” and the upcoming ” Great Gatsby” film, but the  20′s are back and dominated the Spring 2012 runways. To wear this trend, look for drop waisted dresses and pieces with feathers, fringe, and art deco designs.

Row 1, From L to R: Emporio Armani, Philosophy, Naeem Khan, Jil Sander, Marc Jacobs. Row 2: Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Derek Lam, Alberta Ferretti, Peter Som. Row 3: Marchesa, Reed Krakoff, Anna Sui, Douglas Hannant, Alice & Olivia. Row 4: Etro, Oscar de la Renta, Roberto Cavalli, Julien Macdonald, Yves St. Laurent. Row 5: Chanel, Tory Burch, Rachel Zoe, Dennis Basso, Rebecca Taylor.

***

Orange Crush- This bold hue is one of the most popular shades for Spring 2012 and represents the fresh feel of the season. Used in everything from accessories to evening wear, this is a bright and exciting color that will surely get you noticed.

Row 1, From L to R: Hermes, Rebecca Minkoff, Badgley Mischka, Matthew Williamson, Derek Lam. Row 2: Elie Saab, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Alexandre Herchcovitch, Kenzo, Victoria Beckham. Row 3: Yigal Azrouel, Alexander McQueen, Donna Karan, Alberta Ferretti, Reed Krakoff. Row 4: Michael Kors, Dolce & Gabanna, A.L.C, Ports 1961, Jenny Packham. Row 5: Christian Siriano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Tam, Doo.Ri, Vena Cava.

***

Peplums - This sweet design element is a major trend for the season and designers added them to tops, skirts and dresses, while also pairing them with shorts and pants. The flounce adds femininity to any outfit and is a fun addition to your Spring wardrobe.

Row 1, From L to R: Zac Posen, Dries van Noten, Marchesa, Cushnie et Ochs, Marc by Marc Jacobs. Row 2: Jason Wu, Marni, Thakoon, Givenchy, Banana Republic. Row 3: Celine, Badgley Mischka, Rodarte, Giles, Suno. Row 4: Christian Dior, Vera Wang, Aquilano.Rimondi, Ruffian, Giorgio Armani. Row 5: Nina Ricci, Jill Stuart, Yves St. Laurent, Emanuel Ungaro, David Koma.

***

The Sports Authority - For Spring 2012 designers chose to take sporty design elements out the gym and incorporate them into everyday clothes. One of the most popular trends of the season, this athletic look is easy to wear and way cool.

Row 1, From L to R: Isabel Marant, Stella McCartney, Acne, Bill Blass, ADAM. Row 2: Nina Ricci, Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, DKNY, Mulberry. Row 3: Rag & Bone, Balenciaga, Y-3, Altuzarra, Lacoste. Row 4: Helmut Lang, Tibi, Victoria Beckham, Nicole Miller, Cynthia Rowley. Row 5: Versus, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Cynthia Steffe, Tory Burch, Kenzo.

***

Crop Tops and Bare Midriffs - This is definitely one of the most daring and tricky trends for Spring 2012. To wear this look, balance the bare top with a fuller, more covered bottom or wear it under an open jacket – this will ensure that the look stays on the side of sexy and doesn’t cross over to vulgar.

Row 1, From L to R: Versace, Blumarine, Emilio Pucci, Miu Miu, Oscar de la Renta. Row 2: Aquilano.Rimondi, Christopher Kane, Preen, Y-3,  Nina Ricci. Row 3: Badgley Mischka, Ohne Titel, D&G, Proenza Schouler, Barbara Tfank. Row 4: Chanel, Donna Karan, Helmut Lang, Ruffian, Zero + Maria Cornejo. Row 5: Prada, Nanette Lepore, Acne, Dolce & Gabanna, Viktor & Rolf.

***

The Tribe Has Spoken –  The safari inspired trend is nothing new for Spring, but in 2012 the look is based more around tribal prints than khaki. Of course the fabric is still part of it all, but geometric patterns and rich colors take center stage this season.

Row 1, From L to R: Burberry Prorsum, Donna Karan, Alberta Ferretti, Zero + Maria Cornejo, Marni. Row 2: Oscar de la Renta, Balmain, David Koma, Bottega Veneta, J. Mendel. Row 3: Emilio Pucci, Michael Kors, Holly Fulton, Etro, Cynthia Steffe. Row 4: Herve Leger, Missoni, L.A.M.B, Ports 1961, Alexander Wang. Row 5: BCBG by Max Azria, Matthew Williamson, Giuletta, Edun, Jenni Kayne.

***

Pastels - This palette is very popular for Spring 2012 and the sherbet inspired shades go perfectly with the fun and breezy feel of the season. Choose one color or wear a few together…the options are there with these cheery shades.

Row 1, From L to R: Louis Vuitton, Jill Stuart, Preen, Diane von Furstenberg, Rodarte. Row 2: Ralph Lauren, Andrew Gn, Rebecca Taylor, Issa, 3.1 Phillip Lim. Row 3: Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham, Alice & Olivia, Jonathan Saunders. Row 4: Carolina Herrara, Vera Wang, Chanel, Tibi, Versus. Row 5: Valentino, Viktor & Rolf, Prada, Roksanda Ilincic, Christian Dior.

***

Head to Toe Pattern - This “look at me” trend is one of the boldest for Spring. Sporting a matching pattern head to toe can be tricky though, so ensure a chic and flattering look by wearing a print that is proportional to your size.

Row 1, From L to R: Proenza Schouler, Issa, Jil Sander, Bill Blass, Moschino. Row 2: ADAM, Lanvin, Blumarine, No. 21, Julien Macdonald. Row 3: D&G, Peter Som, Stella McCartney, Anna Sui, Nicole Miller. Row 4:  Diane von Furstenberg, Giambattista Valli, Altuzarra, J.Crew, Vivienne Tam. Row 5: Derek Lam, Costello Tagliapietra, Emanuel Ungaro, Akris, Cynthia Steffe.

What’s Your Style Mix?!?

**

There are 7 basic fashion styles – Sporty, Traditional, Elegant, Romantic, Creative, Dramatic, and Alluring. Everyone is their own combination of a few of these looks (even the celebrities listed below!) and this is what makes up a person’s unique style and fashion sense. For me, I am a Creative/Romantic with a splash of Sporty thrown in there. What style mix are you? Take a look below at the style characteristics and see where you fit in!

**

SPORTY: The look is casual and relaxed. Sporty types tend to gravitate towards natural fabrics like cotton and jersey, twill, and linen - Denim is also a favorite, as well as, sneakers. Color preferences for the style are bold and rich shades, primary colors and neutrals. Examples: Ellen DeGeneres, Katherine Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg.
**
TRADITIONAL: The look is classic and tailored. Traditional types choose coordinated pieces and favor a more formal look - Suiting and button down shirts are major components of the style. The color palette is based around neutral shades with other solid hues thrown in as accents. Examples: Hillary Clinton, Diane Sawyer, Martha Stewart.
**
ELEGANT: The look is refined, clean and crisp. The fit is impeccably tailored and skims the body. Elegant types always look put together and tend to stick to monochromatic dressing, neutral colors and luxurious fabrics. Examples: Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Carla Bruni Sarkozy, Kate Middleton.
**
ROMANTIC: The look is soft and feminine. Romantic types tend to choose fabrics that “want to be touched,” such as cashmere, velvet and chiffon. Colors in this style are pastels and muted neutrals. Romantic types also gravitate towards florals, ruffles, and lace. Examples: Florence Welch, Taylor Swift, Zooey Deschanel.
**
CREATIVE: The look embraces individuality and innovation – it has no rules and anything goes! Creative types play around with silhouettes and proportion. The look mixes prints, color, and fabrics and is open to experimenting with fashion. Examples: Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwen Stefani. Nicki Minaj.
**
DRAMATIC: The look is assertive, architectural and frequently avant garde. Dramatic types gravitate towards geometric prints and shapes and adore the ”statement piece” of clothing or jewelry. Colors are strong and bold and often focus on contrasting shades. Examples: Tilda Swinton, Lady Gaga, Rooney Mara.
**
ALLURING: The look is confident and enticing. Alluring types choose body conscious pieces that show off the figure. Color preferences for the style are daring shades such as black and red, as well as, animal prints and metallics. Examples: Sofia Vergara, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez.

New Year, New Favorite Things….

To start of the New Year, I wanted to share the two items I’m obsessed with right now. 1) HUE brand jeggings and 2) Vera Wang Lavender Label Miranda wedges.

HUE Solid Skinny Jeanz Leggings

I am always on the lookout for a great pair of skinny jeans and my new favorites are by HUE. These jeggings are the perfect combination of legging and jean – they are skinny throughout the leg (like a legging) but the denim detailing gives them a real jean look (hello, functioning back pockets!) They are also SUPER comfortable and come in a variety of washes. The price isn’t bad either at just $38, so you don’t have to feel guilty about buying them in every color!

Vera Wang Lavender Label - Miranda Patent Leather Peep Toe Wedge Pump (shown below in Nude)

For months I’ve been on a mission to find a pair of dressy, black wedges and had little success until I found the Vera Wang Miranda Wedge Pump. These shoes may look unassuming but are absolutely stunning once you put them on your feet. They are classic but have a slight modern twist with their curved wedge heel and subtle peep toe.  I wear mine with everything from dresses to jeans and they instantly kick my outfit up a notch. The magic of these shoes need to be seen in person, so go out and find them – trust me!
